SMART SCALES & THEIR APPS

Etekcity scales and Apple Health (the VeSync path)

One of the best-selling scales on the market, and one of the thinnest paper trails. Here is what's actually documented — and what isn't.

Trendline is an iPhone app that reads Apple Health. Everything below assumes an iPhone; the destination for your readings is Apple Health, which Android does not run.

What this page can and can't promise

Most scale brands on our smart-scale index publish at least one support article about Apple Health. Etekcity, as far as we can find, does not: its support portal sits behind a customer login, and no public vendor article spells out the Apple Health connection, the exact menu path, or the list of data types written. So this page works from three honest tiers: what Etekcity's product pages state, what the VeSync app's own App Store listing states, and what owners report. Where a fact lives in the third tier, we say so — a guess dressed as documentation would be worse than the gap.

What Etekcity does state

The product pages are clear about compatibility, if not mechanics. The ESF-551 page says the scale works with the free VeSync app and "syncs data with popular fitness apps like Apple Health," alongside Google Fit, Samsung Health, Fitbit, and MyFitnessPal. The VeSync App Store listing confirms the HealthKit connection from the app side — VeSync can feed health and wellness data into Apple Health — without enumerating which measurements. So the pipeline is vendor-confirmed: scale → VeSync app → Apple Health. The fine print is not.

Which app? (VeSync vs. VeSync Fit)

Current Etekcity products point at VeSync — one app for the whole Etekcity/Levoit/Cosori family, scales included. But older Etekcity scale manuals reference a separate VeSyncFit app: the ESF24 manual's Apple Health section, for example, walks through enabling categories for "VeSyncFit" from inside Apple Health (ESF24 manual, p.18). The App Store today resolves searches for VeSync Fit to the unified VeSync app. If a printed manual in your scale's box names VeSyncFit, treat it as the older generation of the same path — install VeSync, and expect the manual's screenshots to be out of date. (Etekcity has retired at least one of the product pages involved — the ESF24's page now redirects to the storefront — which is part of why the paper trail is thin.)

Turning the sync on

With no vendor support article to cite, here is the portion that's OS-level and app-level verifiable:

  • When VeSync first requests Health access, iOS presents the standard permission sheet listing each data type the app wants to write. Grant the categories you want.
  • If that moment has passed, the switches live in Apple Health (profile icon → Apps, select VeSync) and in iPhone Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices (Apple's guide). VeSync also exposes an Apple Health connection inside its own settings.

What owners report, labeled as such: reviews on the VeSync listing describe both directions — weigh-ins landing in Health, and cases where weight, body fat percentage, and BMI stopped transferring after a reinstall until permissions were rebuilt. Owner threads also commonly suggest having VeSync open during the weigh-in. Etekcity does not publicly document any of this; treat it as field experience, not specification.

What lands where

What VeSync writes to Apple HealthWhat Apple Health can storeWhat Trendline reads from Health
Vendor-confirmed only in general terms: product pages state Apple Health syncing (ESF-551), and the App Store listing confirms HealthKit. No official list of data types exists; owners report weight, body fat %, and BMI in practice. The scale's other readouts (body water, bone mass, visceral fat) have no Apple Health type regardless.Weight, BMI, body fat %, lean body mass, height, waist circumference. No types exist for body water, bone mass, or visceral fat.Weight, body fat %, and lean body mass (height as context). BMI and waist are not imported — BMI is derivable, and neither carries trend information Trendline needs.

When Trendline launches, it will also accept manual entries — including composition values Apple Health has no type for, like visceral fat and body water — so a thin sync needn't mean a thin record.

When sync stalls

Without a vendor troubleshooting doc, the reliable sequence is the generic HealthKit one, cheapest step first:

  • Confirm the write permissions survived your latest reinstall or iOS update: Health → profile → Apps → VeSync, every category you care about switched on. A reinstall can silently reset these — the owner-reported failure above matches this shape.
  • Weigh in with the VeSync app open in the foreground, at least as a test. If readings arrive only then, you've learned how your model behaves; several budget-scale apps on our index page share that trait.
  • Check the reading exists in VeSync at all. If the app never received the weigh-in, the problem is Bluetooth pairing, not Health — re-pair the scale in VeSync before touching Health settings.

And the boundary no vendor states for you: readings flow from the day you enable it, forward. Etekcity does not document whether past readings transfer to Apple Health when you first grant access — so we don't claim it either way. If your VeSync history predates the toggle, check Health after enabling rather than assuming.

Try the idea

Whatever your sync situation, the trend question doesn't have to wait for it. Paste a few weeks of weigh-ins — from VeSync, from Health, or from a notebook — into the free weight trend calculator. It runs in your browser, nothing uploads, and it draws a deliberately slower signal next to your raw measurements. Daily numbers vary for reasons that have nothing to do with progress; the slower line is the readable one.
