BROWSER EXAMPLE · HOW IT WORKS
Day 5: holding steady. Day 14: down 1.4 lb a week.
Same person, same scale, the same 14 weigh-ins. This browser example shows why a short window can disagree with a longer one. The iPhone app uses a separate seven-reading-day admission rule, explained below.
1. One morning cannot tell you what is happening
Look at how far the dots sit from the line. On a bad morning the scale can be more than a pound off the direction your body is actually going — not because it is broken, but because it is weighing your dinner, your hydration and last night's salt along with you. Any single number contains all of that, and no way to separate it out.
2. Waiting longer did not sharpen the answer. It changed it.
This is the same fourteen readings, read at three different moments. The sentences below come from the free website calculator’s example engine, not from an app screen.
| After | What Trendline says |
|---|---|
| 5 mornings | Holding steady |
| 7 mornings | Down 0.3 lb per week |
| 14 mornings | Down 1.4 lb per week |
Read the first column against the second. At five mornings this browser example reports that nothing is happening. By fourteen, the same person on the same scale is losing over a pound a week. A short read is not merely a noisier version of the longer answer; it can point somewhere else entirely.
3. The app waits for enough distinct days — and then keeps working
In the iPhone app, Weight analytics become available after seven distinct eligible Weight Reading Days; Composition follows the same seven-day rule for eligible Composition readings. Before that point, Trendline shows exact progress such as “5 of 7 reading days” instead of inventing a conclusion.
Once an analytic has been earned, changing scales or gaining better source metadata does not start a new waiting period. Sparse, conflicting, or stale evidence can qualify a specific conclusion or widen a planning window, but provenance alone does not erase the history or silence a supportable result.
4. What Trendline keeps besides the number
None of that works on the number alone. Trendline reads compatible weigh-ins from Apple Health after permission and retains the source context Apple makes available, alongside your cadence and selected phase. A source label can help you investigate a discontinuity; it cannot prove that either the equipment or your body caused the jump.

The number, and everything needed to interpret it later.

5. Now run it on your own weigh-ins
The worked fortnight above runs in the browser, free, with no account. Paste your own weigh-ins into the weight trend calculator to explore the same window effect. The site’s other free tools cover energy, goals, and composition, but they are separate browser instruments and should not be read as a list of current iPhone app features.
KEEP THE SIGNAL
You have the readings already.
The trend is the part that is hard to see by eye — and the part worth having.
