OMRON & APPLE HEALTH

Omron and Apple Health: select scales only

Omron is a blood-pressure company that also sells scales — and its own pages say only select body-composition monitors sync. Check your model first; here's the rest if it does.

Trendline is an iPhone app that reads Apple Health. This page covers getting Omron weight readings into Health; why Health is the right destination at all is its own page.

Check your model before anything else

Omron's own app page states the scope plainly: the OMRON connect app "syncs with every one of our connected blood pressure monitors and select body composition monitors" (omronhealthcare.com/omron-connect-app, read July 20, 2026). Blood pressure is the product Omron builds its ecosystem around; weight is the sidecar. On the US page, the connected body-composition devices are the BCM-500 body-composition monitor and the SC-150 digital scale. If your Omron scale isn't a connected model, no app setting will produce an Apple Health sync — better to learn that in the first paragraph than deep in the settings.

How to turn it on

Omron's US site currently folds its step-by-step FAQ pages into a general app page, so the exact path below is taken from Omron support's own instructions as quoted by owners in live Apple Support Communities threads, where it matches what resolved their setups (thread 254490299, thread 256100682):

  1. In OMRON connect, open Profile.

  2. Tap App Settings, then under Share data with other apps, tap Apple Health.

  3. Tap Link, then tap the Health entry to open the permission sheet and enable the categories you want shared.

That last tap matters: one owner's data never moved until they opened the Health entry and granted the individual data types (thread 256100682). The integration itself is vendor-confirmed on both sides of the Atlantic — the App Store listing says the app can "Exchange readings directly with Apple Health" (OMRON connect on the App Store), and Omron's EMEA site lists connection with Apple Health among the app's free features (omron-healthcare.com/omronconnect, read July 20, 2026).

What the app shows that Health will never hold

The BCM-500 measures six metrics: body weight, body fat percentage, visceral fat level, skeletal muscle percentage, resting metabolism, and BMI (Omron's BCM-500 product page, read July 20, 2026). Of those, Apple Health has types for weight, body fat %, and BMI — and that's the ceiling. Skeletal muscle %, visceral fat level, and resting metabolism have no Apple Health type and stay in the OMRON connect app, along with the body-age figure some Omron monitors display. If those numbers matter to your tracking, the vendor app remains their only home.

The "Inactive" pattern

The documented Omron-and-Health complaint isn't exotic — it's the connection reporting itself dead or half-alive. Across live Apple Support Communities threads, owners describe OMRON connect showing as "Inactive" in Health's sources list, or missing from Health's privacy settings entirely, or collecting readings that never appear in Health (254490299, 256100682, 255715477, 255388194 — the last of these closed with no resolution). The fixes below resolved the other three; they are owner-reported, not vendor specification:

  • Enable Background Sync in the OMRON connect app — the setting whose absence kept one thread's link "Inactive" despite a correct setup (254490299).
  • Grant the data types explicitly via Profile → App Settings → Apple Health, tapping through to the permission sheet (256100682 — the same thread notes the iPad version of the app lacks the Health option; do this on an iPhone).
  • Full reinstall and re-pair — unpair the device, unlink Health, delete and reinstall OMRON connect, then re-link in the reverse order. The sequence that worked for one iOS 17 owner after nothing else did (255715477).

Whether enabling the link backfills readings taken before it existed is not documented by Omron; assume it doesn't, and add older readings to Health by hand if you want the record complete.

What lands where

What OMRON connect writes to Apple HealthWhat Apple Health can storeWhat Trendline reads from Health
Not published by the vendor as an exact list — Omron's pages name weight, body fat, blood pressure, and pulse as data the app handles, and the write set depends on the categories you enable at link time. Verified candidates for a scale: weight, body fat %, BMI (EMEA app page; App Store listing, July 2026).Weight, body fat %, lean body mass, BMI, height, waist circumferenceWeight, body fat %, lean body mass — with height as context. BMI and waist are not imported.

When Trendline launches, it will also accept manual entries for the composition values Apple Health has no type for — the skeletal muscle, visceral fat, and resting-metabolism numbers that currently live only in the OMRON connect app.

Try the idea

Once weight readings are landing in Health, expect the series to wander from weigh-in to weigh-in — that's variation, not a fault in the monitor. Paste a few weeks of readings into the free weight trend calculator and compare them against a deliberately slower signal; the direction underneath is the number worth watching.
